Citizen's band radio in India

Postby bijuclick » Tue May 20, 2008 6:02 pm

Hi,
I would like to buy a Citizen's Band Radio next time to start my private communication in Kerala,India. Now a days, CB radio is license free on 27MHz. I don't know from where I can buy a type approved CB radio in India. If any body knows more details on the channel frequency & about the Radio set, please respond. If you know any Indian CB radio Club or operator, I will be glad on it. :?:

With regards,
Mr.Biju

Hi, Mr. Biju,

I came across your question when searching for CB radio in India. May be this website will help.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_B ... o_in_India

There are a lot of models available from Motorola for hobbyist use. Choose carefully. Don't pick an American band radio. Remember to ask for license forms from the dealer. Make this certain. Do not buy without enquiring about license requirements. The radios are found in all metropolis in India. You will certainly find some in Thiruvananthapuram or Cochin. Lot of travel agents and shipping agents use it nowadays.

Hope this helps

There are some showrooms in Parrys, Numgambakkam, Besant Nagar, Kodambakkam, of high value brands. These sets usually cost around Rs. 6000 but the higher power sets might cost you more. Whatever the power, when you buy, make certain that the shopowner helps you get a license first. Although you can try using one in the 26 MHz or 27 MHz band - the citizens band, you will probably have to bear with interference from neighbouring large hotels or depots where people use radios for intra campus communication. You will have to select the exact frequency carefully. A google search will usually show you showrooms from variuos locations in Chennai. Try calling them first.

It is also a good idea to search some duty free shops or custom notified sales shops which stock foreign goods. These shops are found at major plazas or popular markets. Try some upmarket plazas like the Spencer's. I am not sure if there is any such shop there. Good Hunting. :D Post a messge if you find one. Many of us would like to buy one. :P
