frequency counter

Postby eng13 » Thu Oct 29, 2015 2:46 pm

i have tried modifying the counter given here to suit my pic 16F877A. i have some doubts
1. would this circuit count frequency of square triangle and sine?
2.is there a way i can find amplitude of incoming signal?
3.WHATS THE NEED FOR VARIABLE CAPACITOR?

1. You can see that a diode clipper is used in circuit, so it shapes the waveform, so it count all the waveform.
2. Possible with a rectifier (a precision rectifier might be better) which connect to ADC of 877.
3. The accuracy of measurement is depend on the time base and its accuracy, the variable capacitor is used to fine tune the 4MHz oscillator, i.e. the time base.
