You said FRS radios are not permitted in india, then what about GMRS channels?(Check this link http://www.radiobossradios.com/product. ... 266&page=1)
If we wanted to use them what we require?
I saw some peoples using walkie talkies in shopping malls and big-bazaar, what about them?

GMRS/FRS are not legal in India, but I can't find anything from the WPC website to clarify.

http://www.wpc.dot.gov.in/

WPC issues licence to operate VHF/UHF frequencies by paying a licence fee

Why not you find someone from local HAM Radio Club? Try to find in Gujrat, email them and fix an appointment.

I have a humanities background and would still like to be a ham operator. Is it possible to not just be an engineer or technical person and yet do this. I am a little apprehensive and would like some help. Also, I have downloaded the Koch morse code trainer but would like to know how do I buy equipment to practice sending morse code. As I said, I cant build from circuits etc. Hope someone is able to assist. I reside in Delhi.

It's very easy now, WPC has recently changed the licensing procedure and ASOC test pattern. Test papers are now objective type and Morse code requirement is 8 WPM. If you're residing in Delhi/NCR area then visit Gangaisar wireless at B - 1, Ajnara Towers, Plot No - 1, Lsc, Savita Vihar, Delhi-110092 and contact Mr. Banwari Lal for a Morse Key, Mr. Lal produces and sales Morse keys on demand basis. Per unit may cost around Rs. 500/- (I purchased 2 years ago)

I dont think this is a problem. I am also a BA graduate. The syllabus is simple. The HAM Club at my locality also run classes for basic electronics. Just for my comfort feeling I also took help from my cousin who is a Diploma holder in electronics. And I did clear the exams nearly a year back.

PS: I cleared the exams, but I am still waiting for my license. But that is a different ball game all together.

Hi,
I am interested in becoming a ham. I am a final year student doing BE in ECE. I do not have any idea how about getting started. I live in Vellore - Tamil Nadu. I've searched the database and found about 5 hams in vellore. But i cant get their details like email address or contact number.

Could any one explain me the steps exactly needed to become a ham right from the beginning?

Thanks in advance.
